<lom:langstring xml:lang="de">Der Verwaltungsbezirk Krems umschließt eine große landschaftliche Vielfalt und darüber hinaus auch bedeutende Kunstlandschaften. Die Auswahl der topographischen Ansichten ist notgedrungen eine mehrfach gefilterte: Nach dem ersten Kriterium, den gewachsene historische Strukturen naturgemäß oft ignorierenden Bezirks- bzw. Gemeindegrenzen, waren Vollständigkeit und Ausgewogenheit und Ausgewogenheit maßgebliche Aspekte, wozu sich noch das Bemühen um ein gewisses  Qualitätsniveau gesellte.
Den ersten Block bilden überlieferungsbedingt Kupferstiche aus dem 17., seltener 18. Jahrhundert, meist der berühmten &quot;Topographia inferioris modernae&quot; G. M. Vischers aus 1672 entnommen. Aquarelle des (überwiegend) 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhunderts stellen die zweite große Gruppe der ausgestellten Werke dar; sie gehen zurück auf die romantische Entdeckung der heimischen natürlichen Umgebung und erreichten bereits sehr früh hohes künstlerisches Niveau, welches in Persönlichkeiten wie Thomas Ender (1793-1875) bzw. Josef Heideloff (1743-1830) kulminierte. Der letzte große, zum Teil sogar dominierende Bereich umfaßt Originalfotografien und Postkarten.</lom:langstring>
